On Oct. 13, Mike Couch of Baldwin will take over as the commissioner and statistician of the Middle Border Conference.

Couch was appointed to the post by school superintendents and athletic directors of MBC schools.

“I think that the Middle Border Conference made an excellent selection,” said Wade Labecki, athletic director for Baldwin-Woodville. “He is passionate about athletics and understands the requirements of running our conference from an organizational standpoint.”

Couch’s duties will include scheduling of games and officials, conducting the business of the conference, and maintaining the MBC Constitution and bylaws.

A life long resident of western Wisconsin, Couch graduated in 1982 from Hudson High School, then a MBC member. He currently resides in Baldwin with his wife and two daughters.

“I'm excited about the opportunity and look forward to working with all the coaches and athletic directors in the conference in helping the student athletes in getting the most from their high school experience as well as promoting the great student athletes we have in the conference,” said Couch.

Couch will replace Dan Hoffman who was selected to serve as the MBC commissioner in 2003.

“We would like to thank Dan Hoffman for everything that he has done for the conference,” continued Labecki.

A total of eight high schools make up the MBC including: Amery, Baldwin-Woodville, Durand, Ellsworth, New Richmond, Osceola, Prescott and Somerset.

More information about the MBC is available on the conference’s Web site at: www.middleborder.org.
