Prescott library offers ‘Food for Fines’

PRESCOTT — If, during fall cleaning, long-lost items from the Prescott Public Library have been discovered, rejoice!

PRESCOTT — If, during fall cleaning, long-lost items from the Prescott Public Library have been discovered, rejoice!

Return those library materials and do a good deed at the same time. Now is an opportunity to reduce or waive library fines by contributing to the Prescott Area Food Shelf.

Here is how to have those fines waived:

Bring in “Food for Fines” to the library through Wednesday, Nov. 26. Patrons are asked to take all food items to the circulation desk so library staff can credit their accounts. Donations should not be placed directly in the food shelf bins.

Acceptable canned or dried good items include soup, vegetables, fruit, gelatin, pudding, macaroni, rice, peanut butter, cereal. Home-canned goods are not accepted.

Each non-perishable food item can be exchanged for $1 owed in overdue Prescott fines. Note only fines on Prescott library materials will be waived; fines from other MORE libraries cannot be waived.

There is no limit to the amount of fines waived or the quantity of overdue materials returned. However, this offer does not apply to replacement costs for lost or damaged materials. Lost or damaged items must be paid for so replacement items can be purchased.

Whether there are fines or not, the library accepts food shelf items year-round. For more information about the program, call (715) 262-5555.
