The number of families in need has increased this year in many areas, leaving food shelves less stocked than in the past.

According to the Feed My People Food Bank Web site, the most needed food items are boxed or canned dinners (beef stew, chili, etc.), canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, tuna, peanut butter, canned soup, pasta products, spaghetti sauce, complete pancake mix/syrup and juice (100 percent fruit).

Monetary donations will also be accepted. For every $1 donated, local food pantries can collect and distribute approximately seven pounds of food.
