Last month, Sean Hall notified the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department that he was a victim of an assault along with his house being burglarized.

It turned out to be a hoax as Hall admitted to Investigator Doug Ducklow Monday that he fabricated the whole incident, citing financial difficulties, the Sheriff’s Department said in a press release Wednesday.

On Oct. 16, Hall told the Sheriff’s Department that two masked men entered his residence, in rural Bay City, in that along with burglary and assault, also vandalized furniture. He also said that all of this occurred while his two children, ages three years and nine months, were asleep in a bedroom.

The items that were reported stolen have since been recovered.

According to Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Dennis Sorenson, all the reports in the case have yet to be completed. Once that occurs, the case will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office. Sorenson added the Sheriff’s Department is recommending a felony charge of insurance fraud and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing.
