BELDENVILLE — This year, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Beldenville, will light up its cemetery with luminaries next Sunday evening.
This is an old Finnish and Swedish tradition, though Swedes typically light candles on the graves for the Feast of All Saints. Finns do so on Christmas Eve as a means to remember those who are no longer here to celebrate Christmas.
The lighting up of the cemetery is in conjunction with the church’s Sunday School Christmas program at 6 p.m. Sunday. There is also a “hot dish” or casserole supper that evening at the church, which begins at 4:30 p.m. A freewill offering will be taken at the supper.
Folks who are interested in attending the supper or seeing the all the luminaries can find the church on the corner of CTH N and 530th Street.
Our Savior’s Lutheran is a ministry of the ELCA.
