Jose and Alicia Duran were on their way to Fairview Red Wing Medical Center Monday morning in preparation for the couple’s second child to be born.

Jose and Alicia Duran were on their way to Fairview Red Wing Medical Center Monday morning in preparation for the couple’s second child to be born.

However, there was one catch to that plan. The baby was more ready than they thought.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call from Jose at 7:44 a.m. that Alicia was in labor on CTH E near 640th Avenue in the Town of Oak Grove.

Sheriff’s Investigator Doug Ducklow was the first on the scene about 10 minutes later and, by then, April Duran was born--in the front seat of the family’s pickup truck.

Ducklow explained the River Falls couple chose Fairview Red Wing because that’s where their first child was born, and the labor and delivery for that child took 12 hours, so they thought they were going to be alright.

He added the child appeared healthy and it was full term. Prescott Ambulance and Ellsworth Paramedic were on scene about 10 minutes after Ducklow. Prescott Ambulance transported Alicia and April to Fairview Red Wing.
