ELMWOOD—A childhood injury with which Patty Branch has had to cope most of her life has been dealt with once again.

Branch’s right eye was hurt in an accident when she was seven-years-old, she said Wednesday. In February, she had it removed. Later this month, a benefit will be held to help her family meet related expenses.

“I’m getting a contact—they’ll put in a ‘coral’, which moves with my other eye,” she said about the matching thick plastic replacement she hopes to soon have in place.

Compounding the family’s expense difficulties are insurance she has at her work (Genesis Industries in Elmwood) doesn’t cover all of them and her husband, Jeff, lost his job at Smead Manufacturing around a month ago, she said. Strong community support of the benefit on Saturday, April 25, at 11 a.m. at the Elmwood Auditorium is sought, with Thrivent Financial already agreeing to provide funds.
