An area man was sentenced Friday in Pierce County Circuit Court to 20 days jail for misdemeanor insurance fraud.

Sean Hall, 37, now of Ellsworth, was also sentenced to 20 days jail for resisting and obstructing an officer as part of a plea agreement. He will serve those terms consecutively.

The case goes back to last October when Hall, who was living in Bay City at the time, reported to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department two masked men entered his residence, physically assaulted him, vandalized furniture and burglarized the home. He added all of this occurred while his two children were asleep in a bedroom.

The following month, while being interviewed by county Investigators, Hall admitted he fabricated the whole incident, citing financial difficulties. The items he reported stolen have since been recovered.

The false claim was one of the reasons Pierce County District Attorney John O’Boyle argued for jail time.
