Prescott nine wins third straight over Panthers

Cory Seifert cracked a two-run double and Tim Harris followed with an RBI single in the first inning. That proved to be all the runs Prescott would need to beat Ellsworth 3-0 in the first round of the WIAA Division 2 regionals.

PRESCOTT - Cory Seifert cracked a two-run double and Tim Harris followed with an RBI single in the first inning. That proved to be all the runs Prescott would need to beat Ellsworth 3-0 in the first round of the WIAA Division 2 regionals.

It was the third straight time this season the Cardinals have beaten the Panthers in baseball.

Garrett Choate picked up the win for Prescott. The Panthers' Tyler Regnier singled to lead things off and Caleb Dressen followed with a two-out single. However, Ellsworth managed just one more hit off Choate, though they also missed an opportunity in the top of the seventh inning.

Alex Ristow represented the tying run at the plate with two down and Choate still throwing. Choate uncorked a wild one that squirted free. Ellsworth’s runner at first took off for second, but the runner on second hesitated. Prescott ended the game with a rundown.

Ellsworth ends its season at 10-16 while Prescott improves to 16-5 and will play at Bloomer in a regional semifinal contest Tuesday.
