Area residents may have noticed some changes at the little brick church at the corner of Hwys. 72 and 63 just east of Ellsworth.
Since 2006, members of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ have been working toward transforming the area north of the church and parsonage into a space for outdoor worship and personal reflection as they carry out plans to naturalize the space and make it accessible. Some might remember having played softball in this triangular area many years ago.
One of the main features of this project is a walking path of more than one-quarter mile, constructed of crushed limestone snaking its way through the grass and trees. Along the way are flower gardens, benches, picnic tables and over 500 shrubs and trees that have been planted. Although not yet formally named, members of the church have taken to calling this park the “Walking Path.”
