Hubbers 3rd, Blues 5th in Cheese Curd Classic tourney

Ellsworth finished third and Plum City was fifth in the Ellsworth Hubbers Cheese Curd Classic Tournament

ELLSWORTH - Both Ellsworth and Plum City won two games at last weekend's Ellsworth Hubber Cheese Curd Classic Tournament at Bob Young Field.

The Hubbers finished in third place while the Blues were fifth.

On Saturday, Plum City beat Elmwood 11-4 in the consolation round. Biederman and Mark Luebker both had two home runs while Chase Nelson hit a solo home run. Biederman was the winning pitcher.

Adam Churchill scored twice for Elmwood and hit a triple while Justin Kerg and Bryce Lunzer both had two hits for the Expos. Kerg and teammate Jonah Lansing both drove in runs.

Later that day Ellsworth was beaten by Hudson in the semifinals 13-2. Nate Hove was 2-for-3 from the plate and J.P. Paulson hit an RBI-triple. But Hudson scored five runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to win the contest there and then. The Hubbers helped the River Rats out with five walks and four errors

Sunday's games started with Plum City winning the fifth place game 3-2 over Menomonie. Luebker was the winning pitcher. Zach Watkins had three hits, including a double while Tony Garner had two hits, including an RBI.

Ellsworth downed New Richmond 3-1 in the third place game. Paulson gave the Hubs' a 3-0 lead in the third on a three-run homer. New Richmond scored a run in the sixth with the bases loaded but Ellsworth first baseman Matt Symicek snagged a line drive and was able to roll over and tag first base for the double play and end the Miller's threat. Sheldon Johnson was the winning pitcher.

Hudson won the tournament championship 12-1 over River Falls. The River Rats led the game 2-1 before scoring 10 runs in the top of the seventh.
