A 54-year-old Bay City man was jailed for aiming a handgun at a couple who stopped at Kwik Trip on South Main Street in River Falls Aug. 2.
A criminal complaint filed last week by the Pierce County District Attorney against Lemuel A. Johnson includes:
--A felony against him for a felon possessing a firearm; and misdemeanors for pointing a firearm at a person and for disorderly conduct.
After he left Kwik Trip and there was a 911 call about the gun pointing, Johnson was pursued by Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies.
He drove toward Prescott on Hwy. 29-35, then turned on CTH E, and again on 690th Street, 570th Street and 640th Street before finally pulled over on 1000th Street in a “high-risk traffic stop.”
Over the next few days, police officers and sheriff’s deputies spent hours combing miles of shoulders and ditches, searching for a gun Johnson may have tossed during the chase.
Thursday afternoon, River Falls Police Sgt. Jon Aubart said the painstaking search finally turned up the suspect gun along CTH E. The weapon is now being analyzed at a state crime lab.
