Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Twins have signed pitcher Kyle Gibson, the team's first-round pick in the 2009 MLB Draft.
The right-handed Gibson, who was taken 22nd overall, appeared in 16 games for Missouri this season. The 6-foot-5 junior went 11-3 with a 3.21 earned run average, threw five complete games and struck out 131 while walking only 19.
"We are extremely pleased to reach an agreement with Kyle Gibson," said assistant general manager Rob Antony. "He is a polished college pitcher, who we believe has a chance to be a starting pitcher in our Major League rotation in the future. He is very competitive and throws a lot of strikes, which fits well in our organization."
Gibson was named a second team All-American and named to the Big 12 Conference First Team in 2009.
