An area teenager received probation Tuesday in Pierce County Circuit Court for reckless driving.

Travis J. Bacholke, 17, Glenwood City, was placed on one year probation for misdemeanor reckless driving and a deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) for three years for two counts of felony reckless driving to cause great bodily harm.

The charges stemmed from an accident Oct. 21, when Bacholke was driving a vehicle on 770th Avenue in the Town of Gilman when three girls--two 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old--decided to ride on the trunk, as it was close to one of their driveways. All three girls got on the trunk and Bacholke headed east. The girls then fell off the car while the vehicle was in motion. Two of the girls had to eventually be taken to hospitals in the Twin Cities before being released.

Terms of the probation include paying court costs within 30 days, complying with the DPA and the restorative justice program.

Pierce County District Attorney John O’Boyle explained the restorative justice program was deemed appropriate due to Bacholke’s age and the circumstances involved.
