Gophers' Campbell and Ellestad named Big Ten Players of the Week

Minnnesota Sports - University of Minnesota linebacker Lee Campbell and kicker Eric Ellestad were named Big Ten defensive and special teams players of the week following the Gophers 23-20 overtime win over the Syracuse Orange Saturday at the Carrier Dome.

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota linebacker Lee Campbell and kicker Eric Ellestad were named conference players of the week following the Gophers 23-20 overtime win over the Syracuse Orange Saturday at the Carrier Dome.

Campbell led the Gophers with 13 tackles, including 11 solo, 1.5 for a loss and 0.5 sacks, and one pass breakup. The senior from Naples, Fla., recorded three solo tackles on the Orange's overtime possession. The last Gopher to earn the honor was Willie VanDeSteeg on Oct. 13, 2008.

Ellestad was 3-4 on field goal attempts and 2-2 on extra points. The junior from Brooklyn Park made all three field goals in the second half and overtime, including the game-winning 35-yarder and game-tying 26-yarder. The last Gopher to earn the honor was Joel Monroe on Oct. 6, 2008.

For both Campbell and Ellestad it is their first player of the week honors.
