Pierce County harriers take part in Durand Invite

DURAND - Prep cross country teams from Ellsworth, Spring Valley and Elmwood took part in Thursday's Durand Invitational at Rolling Greens Golf Course.
St. Croix Central swept the boys' and girls' meets of 13 competing schools. Both Ellsworth teams were third. Spring Valley's girls were fourth and Elmwood sixth. Spring Valley's boys finished 9th and Elmwood was 11th.
Spring Valley's Breanna Colbenson won the girls meet in a time of 16:18. Ellsworth's Kennedy Kowalchyk had the Panthers' top girls' time and place by finishing eighth in 18:10 and Elmwood's Sarah Claflin was 15th in 18:41.
David Klawitter was seventh for the Ellsworth boys' in a time of 18:49. Elmwood's Tim Talford finished fifth in a time of 18:43 and Spring Valley's best time and place was put in by Dan Rudd, 42nd in 21:11. St. Croix Central's Brett Johnson won the boys' race in 17:18.
Ellsworth hosts its own invitational meet next Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Ellsworth Middle School.
