Jim Ross explained that, when the book “Climb Aboard” was first published last March, it caught the attention of one person in particular.

“I was having discussions with the (Pierce County) Sheriff (Nancy Hove) and she felt it would be a good book to have in their squad cars,” said Ross, owner of Flat Pennies Ice Cream in Bay City whose personal story was the inspiration for Climb Aboard (the book was written by local resident Susan Huppert).

Hove explained each squad car has a series of books used to comfort children in adverse, unfortunate situations.

Further discussions ensued and, on Friday, Hove’s wish became official as Ross and wife Lorna donated copies so a book will end up in all of the sheriff’s department patrol cars.

“I felt that the book should be in the mix,” Hove said.
