A former UW-River Falls student was sentenced to 18 months probation Wednesday in Pierce County Circuit Court for fourth-degree misdemeanor sexual assault.

Karwee Marshall, 23, was initially charged with third degree felony sexual assault, but pled guilty to the misdemeanor as part of an agreement.

“This is an appropriate resolution of a difficult situation,” said Pierce County Circuit Court Judge Robert Wing, who handed down the sentence. “Mr. Marshall used poor judgment and I think he understands that.”

Terms of the probation include Marshall undergoing sex offender assessment and follow through treatment, having no contact with the victim and paying DNA sample. If he does complete probation, Marshall may petition the court to have the crime expunged from his record.
