Ellsworth man receives probation for sexual assault

An Ellsworth man was sentenced to one year probation Monday for misdemeanor sexual assault.

Corey J. Haase, 22, pled guilty to having intercourse with a child 16 or older in Pierce County Circuit Court.

According to the criminal complaint, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was first notified of the case in June when the 17-year-old victim, who was pregnant, reported it after speaking to her school guidance counselor and also to Pierce County Human Services.

The victim explained she had been dating Haase, who was 21 at the time, since last December and they had intercourse four times, and each time had been consensual and without protection.

She stated she’s had intercourse with other males, but was pretty sure Haase was the father. She added she didn’t initially want to report the pregnancy or get Haase into trouble, but changed her mind after he broke up with her and is denying paternity.
