Spring Valley's Breanna Colbenson qualified for the state cross country meet by finishing second at the WIAA Division 3 Boyceville Sectional Saturday.
Colbenson's second place time was 15:43. Her Spring Valley team placed ninth out of the 15 schools in the sectional.
She was the only Pierce County runner to qualify for state Saturday. However several others came close.
Elmwood's Tim Talford was three seconds away from qualifying for state. He finished 10th overall in 17:46 in the boys' race at the Boyceville Sectional. It was still the second fastest time he's run this season.
At the Division 2 Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Sectional, Ellsworth's girls team came within a few points of qualifying for state. They finished third behind Westby and West Salem by a 58-103-108 spread.
EHS' Isaac Taplin had the Panthers best finish in the boys' meet, a 15th place in 17:33.
The state meet is next Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids.
