Plum City advanced to Level 2 of the WIAA prep football playoffs while Elmwood had its season come to an end after Tuesday's Level 1 contests Tuesday.
No. 5 ranked Plum City defeated Turtle Lake at Ellsworth's Fuller-Symes Field. The Blue Devils scored 27 points in the second quarter and survived and 24-point Laker rally in the fourth quarter for a 35-24 win. Tim Wayne scored two touchdowns, Gabe Rodriguez had a 23-yards touchdown run and Chase Luebker caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Alex Gilles.
No. 13 Elmwood was without three players, including starters Jesse McKune and Jaylen Case, due to injury, and was outsized greatly by No. 9 Chippewa Falls McDonell. But the Raiders held a 7-6 lead in the second quarter after a one-yard touchdown run by Brian Tolonen and only trailed 20-13 after a 74-yards touchdown pass from Tolonen to E.J. Wolske.
But McDonell quickly scored on its next possession kept scoring until the Macks won 42-13.
Elmwood's closing record is 7-3 overall. 10-0 Plum City will face 7-3 McDonell Saturday in Chippewa Falls at Dorais Field. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
