Ryan Casper and Cory Brathall coached the Ellsworth High School freshman football team to a 5-1-1 record this season.
Despite having just 13 players on the roster, the Panthers were still a success winning five games and losing only one against Middle Border Conference opponents.
The Panther freshmen defeated Prescott 30-12, Durand 20-0, Amery 44-8, lost to Somerset 6-0, beat New Richmond 20-8, Baldwin-Woodville 30-6 and tied Osceola 28-28.
Ellsworth also outscored Prescott in an exhibition contest.
The team was led by Quarterback Jacob Murphy who passed for 707 yards with nine touchdowns and only two interceptions. Tanner Ingli was the leading rusher with 752 yards, six TDs on 98 carries and also making contributions was David Rhy with 99 yards and three touchdowns and Matt Stoetzel, who gained 68 yards. The team’s primary receiver was Alex Campbell who caught 18 passes for 499 yards and six touchdowns. Kyle Gilbertson caught 13 passes with a touchdown. Tanner Ingli, Brady Degross and David Rhy round out those players catching passes. The team’s offensive line was solid as the numbers on offense indicate. Linemen include center Henry Holdorf and Hunter Bjork, guards Ben Modenhauer and Ethan Hager and tackles Mike Auckland and Logan Blodgett.
On defense Tanner Ingli was our leading tackler, followed by Kyle Gilbertson, Logan Blodgett and Ben Moldenhauer.
