Ministry took Ellsworth interim Associate Pastor Peterson around the world

Valerie Peterson recently began as half-time interim associate pastor at English Lutheran Church in Ellsworth.

For someone who knew early on she wanted to serve God, but was unsure exactly how, Valerie Peterson’s ministry has turned out better than she imagined.

Peterson, who’s ministered on the other side of the world lately, is now home. She recently began as half-time interim associate pastor at English Lutheran Church in Ellsworth.

“By the time I was 18, I knew I’d be in a ministry, but not as a pastor,” she said Wednesday, reminding women didn’t used to be accepted in that role in the Lutheran church.

Yet, times have changed and the Hudson native said she finds herself focusing on pastoral care at the local church, along with doing mission projects here, leading others in prayer and assisting with worship. The length of her ministry in Ellsworth is open-ended.
