Fielder's stats just as good as Pujols', NL MVP

- The Milwaukee Brewers’ early exit from the National League pennant race may have cost Prince Fielder some MVP votes.

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers’ early exit from the National League pennant race may have cost Prince Fielder some MVP votes.

Fielder took fourth in the balloting by the Baseball Writers’ Association. Albert Pujols of Saint Louis was considered a lock for the award, and he won his second straight MVP honor and his third in the last five years.

Fielder had just one fewer homer than Pujols with 46 – and Fielder tied Ryan Howard of Philadelphia for the Major League RBI crown with 141.

But Howard’s team was in the playoff chase a lot longer than the Brewers were.

And the same can be said for the Florida Marlins, whose shortstop Hanley Ramirez finished second in the MVP voting. Howard was third.

Fielder has not commented since the results were announced yesterday.
