Marquette men's and women's teams both hardwood winners
Wisconsin Sports- he Marquette men’s basketball team beat Xavier 71-to-61 yesterday in the first round of the Old Spice Classic near Orlando. he Marquette women edged Cleveland State 69-to-66 yesterday at the Caribbean Challenge in Cancun Mexico.

The Golden Eagles ended the game with an 18-to-6 run, while holding the Musketeers to 36-percent from the floor for the day. Marquette forced 20 turnovers, including 11 steals.
Lazar Hayward led the Eagles with 27 points on his 23rd birthday. Senior center Jason Love had a huge game for Xavier with 21 points, 19 rebounds, and five blocked shots. But the Musketeers still dropped to 3-and-1, while Marquette improved to 5-and-0.
The Eagles will play Michigan at 11 this morning in the tournament semi-finals. The Wolverines are 3-and-0, after beating Creighton 83-to-76 in overtime yesterday.

The Golden Eagles went on a 9-1 run to go up by eight with two minutes left. Cleveland’s Kailey Klein missed a three-pointer in the final seconds that would have sent the game into overtime. Marquette guard Angel Robinson injured her right ankle early in the first half while taking a charge. She was out for the rest of the game, while four of her teammates scored in double figures. Senior Janelle Harris led the way with 13 points.
