ORLANDO, Fla. - The Marquette men’s basketball team blew a 17-point second-half lead, and lost to Florida State 57-to-56 last night in the final game of the Old Spice Classic near Orlando.

The Golden Eagles had a one-point lead with just over 30 seconds remaining. But Solomon Alabi, a 7-1 center, made a hook shot from the base-line with 12-point-two seconds left to give the Seminoles the victory.

Marquette set up a final play, but a long pass sailed over Dwight Buycks’ head and went out-of-bounds with three seconds to go. Lazar Hayward had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Eagles, who lost their first game of the season after six wins.

Chris Singleton had 17 for Florida State, which is also 6-and-1. Singleton was named the weekend’s MVP, and Hayward made a five-member all-tournament team.

Marquette’s next game is on Saturday, when it hosts North Carolina State.
