MENOMONIE - A grain company in northwest Wisconsin was trying to find a replacement corn bin and dryer, to keep their business going in the wake of a fire this week.
About four-thousand bushels of corn were destroyed in Tuesday’s blaze at Rusk Prairie Grain near Tainter Lake in Dunn County. Co-owner LuAnn Prochnow said they’re happy no one was hurt – but as of yesterday, they were scrambling for replacement equipment to keep the business running through a late harvest this year.
The old bin-and-dryer was worth 400-thousand dollars, and the burned-out corn was valued at almost 18-thousand dollars. Menomonie Fire officials are trying to determine a cause. A half-dozen other fire departments helped put out the blaze.
