The No. 1 ranked Ellsworth High School wrestling team won five key matches in the final round to its own Ellsworth Invitational Saturday.
Ellsworth and River Falls were close in the team standings before the final round, which was the placement matches. The Panthers decisively won five of the seven finals matches they competed in while the Wildcats won just three of eight finals matches.
EHS racked up 297.5 points to the 'Cats' 263.5. No. 3 Boyceville and No. 4 Cadott finished and fourth respectively. They were supposed to compere with the Panthers for the team title but both squads were missing key performers due to injuries, illness and ineligibility. Ellsworth was missing starter Noah McLay due to illiness as well.
The Panthers have won seven straight invite titles.
Winning titles for Ellsworth were Tyler Thoen at 103 pounds, Roarke Langer at 125, D.J. Yarwood at 135, Tanner Eggenberger at 152 and Tyler Hunter at 215. Hunter won his title match 6-4 in overtime. Sam Huppert at 119 and Levi Kuesel at 145 both were runner-ups.
Prescott finished 10th in the 10-team meet but did score 100 points. Trevor Leyde finished second at 103 and thirds went to Josh Farr at 112 and Tyler Dahl at 171.
