The Minnesota Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Boof Bonser for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Carl Pavano.
Pavano accepted arbitration from the Twins on Monday.
Bonser missed all of last season recovering from surgery to repair tears in his labrum and rotator cuff of his pitching shoulder.
The 28-year-old started experiencing pain in the shoulder at the end of the 2008 season, but an MRI performed at the time showed no structural damage. Rest and rehabilitation was prescribed for the veteran, which proved unsuccessful.
Bonser received a cortisone shot prior to reporting to the club's spring training facility, but the problem did not subside.
Over three seasons with Minnesota, Bonser boasted an 18-25 record with a 5.12 earned run average in 96 games, including 60 starts.
In 2008, he went 3-7 with a 5.93 ERA over 47 contests, starting 12 of those games.
