Elmwood students donate to food shelf

ELMWOOD—During the week prior to Thanksgiving, the Elmwood Student Council sponsored a food drive to collect food for the Elmwood Food Shelf.

The members of the Elmwood Student Council had chosen this time to do the drive so they could help stock the shelves for the Thanksgiving holiday. The student council members had met with each one of the elementary, middle school and high school classes, and sent home letters to make sure this food drive would be successful.

When it kicked off on Nov. 23, everything was set. The response was unbelievable. When the food was delivered to the food shelf, which is located in the village office, the Elmwood Student Council members were greeted by Jeff Gumbusky and Steve Smith, the two men in charge of the Food Shelf in Elmwood.

In the end, the members were informed they had raised over 1,600 pounds of food.

Mr. Smith and Mr. Gumbusky were very pleased with what the Elmwood School District had done in just one week, and commended the students for their hard work. All of those who were involved in the food drive have every reason to be proud of what they accomplished, from student council members who got the ball rolling to all of the students and their family and friends, who were so kind to donate.
