Tree of Spirit lighted in solemn ceremony
Such is the way of small towns.
Such is the way of small towns.
A group of people gathered in the sense of remembrance at the East End Park on Nov. 29 to pay respect to those people who mean so much to them.
For a number of years the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the Tree of Spirit Lighting. It was one of those moments when all the work-a-day worries are put aside. Pastor Matt Anderson of Crossroads Community Church led the assembled group in prayer, while Chamber President Tami Langer flipped the switch to light up the pine tree in the park.
The community had submitted names of people they wished to remember and have a special colored bulb in their honor. As the Miss Ellsworth Royalty read off the names in front of a large sign with all the names, the attendees remembered in silence.
Following the solemn ceremony, the pastor led everyone in singing Christmas carols. The group then enjoyed refreshments before leaving for their respective homes.
This year’s event also featured a concert sponsored by the Ellsworth Lions Club prior to the lighting ceremony.
