Elmwood native Vicky Emerson returns home for her annual holiday show 7:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Elmwood Auditorium.

Emerson, who now lives in New York City, has spent the last six months of 2009 on the road promoting her latest album titled "Long Ride". The singer/songwriter said "Long Ride" is made up of her own brand of Americana music, a notable switch from her previous self-titled album which leaned more towards traditional country nuances.

Emerson wrote many of the songs on "Long Ride" which she says isn't a surprise.

"My songwriting is evolving in a way that makes me understand some of the hardships and obstacles I've overcome," she said. "In my younger years, I made some bad choices. I hurt people and people hurt me. I found it nearly impossible to write about what I was feeling. I didn't not fully comprehend the emotional impact of the situation or life lessons I would fortunately come to learn. After the dust settled, I was able to revisit those memories and discover the universal truth living inside those experiences."

Tickets are $5 at the door with no advance tickets available. Guests are asked to bring a canned good for the local food shelf as well.
