FOND DU LAC - A church in Fond du Lac now says a former pastor has repaid the 10-thousand dollars he allegedly stole. But it might not help him escape a possible criminal charge.

Police say they’re aware The Reverend Stuart Zak reimbursed the church – but when their investigation is done, they’ll still refer the case to prosecutors.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church said the 55-year-old Zak resigned November 30th, after he admitted taking money from holiday donations over the course of a decade.

The church called police after finding the discrepancy. And after the case hit the media yesterday, the church’s new pastor – the Reverend Brett Naumann – issued a statement that Zak had repaid the congregation over the last two weeks, and the church forgives him.
