CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Karisma Penn made a lay-up at the buzzer to give the Illinois women a 53-to-52 home win over Wisconsin.
The Badgers got sloppy near the end, committing three turnovers in the final six minutes. And they missed 4-of-7 free throws in the last four minutes.
Taylor Wurtz scored 14 points, and was the only Badger in double-figures. Rae Lin D’Alie had a career-high nine rebounds for Wisconsin, which narrowly lost the battle-of-the-boards 29-27. Jenna Smith had 18 for Illinois, which improved to 2-1 in the Big Ten and 10-3 overall.
Wisconsin dropped to 1-3 in the conference and 11-4 overall. The Badgers will host Purdue on Thursday.
