Marquette loses another close Big East contest

Another game against a top-ranked opponent -- another narrow loss for the Marquette Golden Eagles. For the second time in eight days Villanova beat Marquette by a bucket. Saturday's score was 78-76 on the Wildcats' home court.

It was the 35th home win in a row. Marquette's record drops to 10-6, including 1-3 in the Big East. After falling behind by 22 points, the Golden Eagles rallied on some hot shooting from beyond the arc.

Lazar Hayward hit four treys in the second half, finishing with 20 points and eight rebounds. Darius Johnson-Odum added 16. Corey Stokes also had 16 -- to lead sixth-ranked Villanova.
