PRESCOTT--Martha Hartung said the idea of opening a bakery had been discussed among family members for a while.
“We just needed the building,” she said.
They found one and, last week, The Bake Shop and More debuted at 202B N. Broad St. in Prescott.
Martha is joined in the business by her daughter, Pam, who will be the day-to-day operations manager and assistant baker. Pam also has her own catering business, Good Enuf to Eat, and can cook a wide assortment of meals.
“The joy it gives people,” Pam said when asked what she enjoys from cooking.
Martha’s daughter-in-law, Maggie, is the third co-owner. She is in charge of packaging and designed the business’ logo.
The Bake Shop will feature doughnuts, pastries, dry goods, coffee, specialty items, bread and buns, gluten-free items, along with coffee and beverages. Lydia Pease from Hudson was hired to be the head baker and has eight years of experience.
