Panther girls hoops rebound to get big win over Somerset

SOMERESET - For the third time this season Ellsworth High School's girls basketball team bounced back quickly from a tough loss for a victory.
The Panthers edged Somerset 60-59 Thursday in Middle Border Conference action just two days after losing to first place Durand 53-40. The win evens their overall record at 5-5 and puts them at 2-1 in the MBC.
Ellsworth led from start to finish and built a 15-point lead, 52-37, after three quarters. The Spartans, who had won two of their last three games, made a furious rally in the fourth quarter fell one-point short.
Somerset junior Ashley Martell led all scorers with 24 points, but the Panthers were 9-for-16 from 3-point land. Shannon Campbell led the way with five three-pointers. She had 21 points to lead her team and teammate Kayla Christopherson scored 16. Junior Taylor Murphy finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. Senior point guard Carlie Melstrom recorded eight points, seven assists five steals and two turnovers.
EHS is at Hudson Tuesday for its final non-conference game of the season.
