MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota’s Brett Favre did something yesterday that he never did in 16 years in Green Bay – throw four touchdown passes in a playoff game. The 40-year-old Favre had a career playoff-high passer rating of 134-point-four in the Vikings’ 34-to-3 rout of the Dallas Cowboys in the Metrodome.
Favre threw for 234 yards, as he won just his third playoff game in his last eight. Sidney Rice caught three touchdown passes, as Minnesota advanced to its first NFC Championship Game since 2000.
Racine County, Wisconsin native Tony Romo of Burlington completed 22-of-35 passes for 198 yards and an interception for Dallas. The Vikings will play at New Orleans next Sunday – where Favre will go up against his former Packer and Minnesota teammate Darren Sharper. Sharper has had a Pro Bowl season at safety for the Saints.
Meanwhile, the New York Jets upset San Diego 17-to-14 yesterday – and that means former Wisconsin safety Jim Leonhard still has a shot at his first Super Bowl. Leonhard had an interception for the Jets yesterday, along with two pass break-ups and six tackles. He’s from Tony in Rusk County – and he followed Jets’ coach Rex Ryan from Baltimore this season. The Jets have now won back-to-back playoff games for the first time since 1982.
