MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Bucks announced the signing of guard Jerry Stackhouse yesterday afternoon. Coach Scott Skiles says the 14-year NBA veteran will join the team and he’s expected to play on Wednesday night when the Bucks host Toronto.

Skiles said the 35-year-old Stackhouse looked good when he worked out for the Milwaukee coaching staff yesterday. But he’s not in mid-season shape, and Skiles promises not to over-play him during the first couple weeks.

Stackhouse was released this summer by the Memphis Grizzlies after Dallas traded him. He has not played for about a year, after suffering knee-and-leg injuries. Skiles said he played with Stackhouse in his own NBA career – they’ve known each other for a long time – and they’ve been talking the past few days.

Stackhouse will take the roster spot of Michael Redd, who’s out for the season with a pair of torn ligaments in his left knee. Early reports said Stackhouse would make the league veterans’ minimum, but there was nothing new on that.

He has career averages of around 18 points, four assists, and three-and-a-half rebounds with Philadelphia, Detroit, Washington, and the Mavericks.

The Milwaukee Bucks ended their Western road trip at 1-and-5, after losing in overtime at Houston 101-to-98 on Martin Luther King Day. Luke Ridnour had a chance to send the game into a second O-T, but his open three-point shot from the corner bounced off the back of the rim at the buzzer.
