MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers have signed back-up outfielder Jody Gerut to a two-million-dollar contract for this year. He got a 225-thousand-dollar raise from a year ago, when he batted .283 with five homers in his final 55 games.
The 32-year-old Gerut was traded from San Diego in May for Tony Gwynn Junior. Gerut hit a combined .230 last season for the Brewers and Padres with nine homers and 35 RBI’s.
He was one of seven Milwaukee players eligible for salary arbitration. The others are second baseman Rickie Weeks, outfielders Corey Hart and Carlos Gomez, starter Dave Bush, and relievers Carlos Villanueva and Todd Coffey. Those not coming to terms by noon today will trade salary proposals with the team.
