Wisconsin Sports- The Milwaukee Brewers have signed reliever Todd Coffey to a one-year contract worth just over two-million dollars. The Brewers avoided salary arbitration, even though it got to the point where they exchanged offers earlier this week.
MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers have signed reliever Todd Coffey to a one-year contract worth just over two-million dollars. The Brewers avoided salary arbitration, even though it got to the point where they exchanged offers earlier this week.
Coffey wanted just under two-and-a-half million, while the team offered one-point-seven. They settled almost halfway – and Coffey can reach the midpoint by making at least 80 appearances. He was in 78 games last year, the most for a Milwaukee reliever. He went 4-4 with an ERA of two-point-nine-oh. And he led the National League with 83 and two-thirds relief innings.
The 29-year-old Coffey is getting a nice raise, after making $800,000 dollars a year ago. Three other Brewers still have arbitration pending – outfielder Corey Hart, starter Dave Bush, and reliever Carlos Villanueva.
