MADISON - The Wisconsin men's basketball team came back from 16 points down in the second half yesterday to beat Penn State in overtime, 79-to-71.
Jordan Taylor scored the final eight points of regulation, and then he scored 10 in the OT for the 18th-ranked Badgers.
UW head coach Bo Ryan became the second-fastest in Big Ten history to reach 100 conference victories. Ryan and Indiana's Branch McCracken each did it in 140 games. Only Bobby Knight reached 100 league wins in fewer total contests, with 131. Ryan also extended his home record over unranked conference opponents to 51-0.
Wisconsin went on a 15-0 run in the second half to get within one. Penn State then moved out in front by eight before Taylor took over. He had 20 points and six assists on the afternoon. And Trevon Hughes scored 22 for the Badgers, as they won their 12th straight game over Penn State. Senior Jason Bohannon reached a-thousand points for his career with a free throw in the overtime.
Talor Battle had 28 points and eight rebounds for Penn State, which remains winless in seven conference games. The Nittany Lions also fell to 8-11 overall. Wisconsin improved to 6-2 in the Big Ten and 16-4 overall. They'll play at Purdue on Thursday night.
