STEVENS POINT - The WIAA Board of Control says it wants a more modest football conference re-alignment in place by 2011 – along with a scheduling change in which playoff teams would no longer have three games in 10 days.

The board rejected a more sweeping plan that would have eliminated conferences for football only, and would have put teams into districts of eight teams each.

The schools in each group would have had more equal enrollments, but board president Roger Foegen said it would have involved a lot more travel for some schools.
