PRESCOTT - Ellsworth High School’s girls basketball team jumped Prescott for a 12-2 lead in the first quarter and held on to beat their Highway 10 rivals 55-51 Tuesday evening.
Shannon Campbell was the one doing the torching of the Cardinals’ defense early on. But struggled with her shot through the second and third quarters, as did the whole team, which allowed Prescott to make a comeback. They only trailed by halftime by five at 31-26 and cut Ellsworth’s lead to just two points on two occasions in the second half.
But Campbell kept shooting and eventually made several key shots on her way to a game-high 23 points. Kelly Kannel finished 10 points for the Panthers and teammate Taylor Murphy scored eight points.
The Panthers won their fifth consecutive game on the road, improving to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in the MBC. Prescott dropped to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the league.
Prescott did have four players in double figures but only five players scored for them. Mary Kate Pryor and Alyssa Krings each had 13 points while Kallie Krech and Megan Murphy both scored 10 points.
