Badger men win, women lose to Minnesota State
Wisconsin SportsWisconsin's men's hockey team won the first game of its two game series with Minnesota State Friday 4-3 while the Mavericks beat the UW women 5-3. Both games were in Madison.
Minnesota State scored first, but it was all Wisconsin the rest of the way in a 4-3 WCHA victory Friday night. There was no scoring until a Maverick goal at 5:36 in the second period. Just over a minute later Michael Davies tied the score, then less than a minute after that Davies found the back of the net again. The Badgers scored a third time before the period ended on a goal from senior Blake Geoffrion. The captain wound up with four points on that goal and three assists. Aaron Bendickson made it 4-1 halfway through the third period, then Minnesota State started to come back. Two late goals weren't enough. Wisconsin's record is 17-7-4 now, including 12-6-3 in the WCHA.
The Wisconsin women's hockey team took a lot of shots, but Minnesota State made them count in a 5-3 victory at the Kohl Center Friday afternoon. The Badgers outshot the visitors 51-18, but suffered the loss. Brianna Decker, Stefanie McKeough and Mallory Deluce had goals for Wisconsin. The Badger record falls to 16-12-3, including 13-11-1 in conference play. The two teams wrap up the weekend series tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. Wisconsin will honor seniors Alannah McCready, Emily Kranz, Kyla Sanders and Jasmine Giles in the final home conference game of the season.
