MADISON - A new bill in the state Assembly would bring back the tax credit for investing in Wisconsin dairy farms. The six-year-old credit expired last month – and the bill would extend it for almost another two years, until the end of 2011.
The head of the Assembly Agriculture Committee, Democrat Amy Sue Vruwink of Milladore, said the tax break has resulted in over a half-billion dollars in dairy facility investments since it began in 2004. Investors get a 10-percent tax break for modernization costs of up to 75,000-dollars each.
The bill also written by Eau Claire Democrat Jeff Smith, and Republicans Al Ott of Forest Junction and Keith Ripp of Lodi. Meanwhile, Vruwink has also proposed a bill to create tax credits for investing in Wisconsin food processors.
