Gopher men and women's hoops team both lose Sunday

Minnesota Sports
- The University of Minnesota's men's and women's basketball teams were both beaten in Big Ten play Sunday.

The University of Minnesota Men's basketball team could make the postseason but it's likely it will be the NIT if that. The 14-10 Gophers led Northwestern by 12-points in the second half, only to lose in overtime 77-74 at Evanston, Ill. Lawrence Westbrook scored 22-points while Devoe Joseph added 16, seven of them during the OT. Minnesota is now 5-7 in the Big Ten and can only hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. That would take winning the Big Ten tourney in March.

Minnesota's women's basketball team lost to seventh-rated Ohio State 64-59 Sunday at Williams Arena. Gopher forward Jackie Voigt had a team-high 15 points. Meanwhile, Ohio State guard Tayler Hill of Minneapolis scored 13-points as the Buckeyes moved to 25-3 overall. Minnesota dropped to 12-13 and 5-9 in the Big Ten.
