A person’s health can depend on many things, for example, the quality of health care around them, their own behavior, education and jobs, and the environment.

With those factors in mind, a study released Wednesday showed Pierce County as one of the top 10 healthiest counties in Wisconsin.

Pierce finished seventh out of 72 counties in a study coordinated by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The study used data from places such as the National Center for Health Statistics, Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, Health Resources and Service Administration and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Ozaukee earned the top spot, followed by St. Croix. Washington, Waukesha, and Portage counties rounded out the top five. Other area counties included Dunn finishing 14th, Polk 26th and Pepin 38th.
