William “Bill” Roy Johnson, 88, of Maiden Rock, died Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Kinnic Long Term Care Center in River Falls.

He was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Red Wing, to Elmer and Christine (Mork) Johnson. He grew up on the family farm in Maiden Rock and attended Forest Home School. He started working on the family farm and later got a job pouring concrete at the NSP Steam Power Plant. He married Margaret Simonson on Feb. 14, 1944, at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. In 1965, he bought the family farm and farmed until retiring in 1996.

He was an active member of the National Farmers Organization and had been involved with the local 4-H Club when his children were younger. Margaret died in 2007. A nature lover, he had enjoyed fishing and coon hunting and he and Margaret had enjoyed taking Sunday drives.

He is survived by his children, Charlene Ekholm of Hager City, DuWayne (Lori) Johnson of Bay City, Dennis (Helen) Johnson of Lake City, Neil (Sandy) Johnson of Hager City, Joleen (Jim) Rigelman of Maiden Rock, and Keith (Heidi) Johnson of Maiden Rock; 27 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Johnson of Red Wing; and three sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his wife; sons, Dean and Tracy Johnson; granddaughters, Michelle (Todd) Zimmer and Theresa Johnson; twin grandsons, Richard and Gerald Christiansen; great-granddaughter, Haylee Zimmer; three sisters, Evelyn Johnson, Gladys Wood and Delores Saupe, and a brother, Orville Johnson.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Hartland Methodist Church with Reverend Shelley Lyksett officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
