Baker slated start Opening Day at Target Field for Twins

Scott Baker is the starter for the Twins' season opener April 5th against the Angels in Los Angeles, but the righthander likely won't start the first official game at Target Field.

FT. MEYERS, Fla. - Scott Baker is the starter for the Twins' season opener April 5th against the Angels in Los Angeles, but the righthander likely won't start the first official game at Target Field.

Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson says if there are no rainouts in the first week of the season, Carl Pavano would take the mound on April 12th against the Red Sox in the new ballpark. Anderson says the planned pitching rotation has Nick Blackburn following Baker, with Pavano the number three starter.

Relief pitcher Jose Mijares (mee-hahr'-is) is scheduled to throw batting practice today in Fort Myers, Florida, two days after getting hit in the left forearm by a line drive. Pitcher Brian Duensing (dun'-sing) was hit on the ankle by a ground ball yesterday but he says there are no major problems. The Twins open their Grapefruit League schedule on Thursday against the Red Sox at City of Palms Park in Fort Myers.
